Enlight EN-8721-A02 Storage Chassis

External Review:

Interesting Points

  • Obviously server oriented. Expect it to be very loud.
  • The disk activity LED's do not work on the SATA models, nor is there any way to get them working. The circuit board was designed prior to the ATA specification for the activity signal pinout.

ICYDOCK MB455SPF 5-in-3

External Review: http://www.bigbruin.com/2006/mb455spf_1

Interesting Points

I have 2 of the 5x3 Flexcage system installed and have generally had good luck with the device.

Pros
1. Great use of space.
2. Easily swap drives, even while the server is running (power button for each drive).
3. Works flawlessly with unRaid. UnRaid recognizes when the drives are turned on.
4. 3 SATA Power ports drive 5 drives
5. Trayless design means quick and easy drive replacement
6. Very quiet

Cons
1. One of my Icy Dock 3x5's have had a problem where drive doors on either side can sometimes pop open when drive is inserted. Icy Dock has offered to replace the unit.
2. The Icy Dock fits very tightly into the case. May just be a problem with my case, but...something to consider.
3. Power buttons are very sensitive, possible to accidentally turn a drive off.

Final opinion
Except for the drive door issue, I like this unit. Drives slide easily in and out. I've had no problems other than the drive door issue, which Icy Dock appears to be correcting.
