AHCI Info

Try to make sure you set AHCI on IDE for SATA1. It will improve performance and in at least one instance, drives connected to SuperMicro cards did not appear until this was set.

However Limetech has noticed that in AHCI mode the Hitachi 7K1000 (1TB) hard drives are not always detected from a cold power-up - no problem with other drive types. A message has been sent to Asus telling them about a "cold start AHCI detection bug" so perhaps this will get fixed in a new BIOS release.

Updating the BIOS

WARNING!! THIS IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS!! READ THE OFFICIAL ASUS DOCS AS WELL

Flashing this board is very easy. Locate the updated BIOS file from the Asus site (BE SURE you choose the correct model MB). Download the zip file and unpack it to the root of your USB Flash drive. Boot into your BIOS and under tools choose EZFlash. Load the new BIOS into this tool. If it passes CRC check, it will ask you if you want to update. Make sure you read the model and version from the menu behind the popup before accepting. If all seems OK, then accept. Wait 2 minutes and allow the BIOS to reboot itself. The whole process takes 10 minutes maximum.

If you are unsure at any stage, don't continue. It is possible to turn your MB into a brick doing this wrong!
